The Amilo 3000 series is designed with a new
"Core & Shell" look. This essentially means black and white. More than
50 other FSC products will also come with this new design among which will be USB sticks, Servers and Desktop pc´s. FSC feels very confident about their new design and trend.
Up till now Fujitsu Seimens have had fairly boring lines but the new Core and Shell design is breaking that mould. The black and white look is pretty daring but looks great.
The more dominant of the two colours is white, with black being used as a secondary colour. The white can be found swathing across the palm rest area, working area and the lid. The contrast between the two colours is quite fantastic and really is a refreshing change to a lot of the generic looks that are on the market today.
We were delighted to receive the new design line in the Editorial Office. The small design subtelties such as the
cropped left arrow key is a quirky touch.
This device has very strong corners and edges providing a very
robust structure. In contrast to many other designs from other manufacturers, FSC have opted against a high gloss surface. This is great as finferprints are nowhere to be seen.
The chassis and palm rest area are very robust as are the hinges. The screen can be moved smoothly and easily and is held firmly in whichever position you place it.
Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the
keyboard. There is a lot of
bounce here. For this reason we will only offer low points for this area.
The touchpad is very
smooth and you can run your finger across it with no problems. The downside here though is that the cursor does not move across the entire screen without repeated finger movements. The touchpad buttons feel nice to the touch but make an annoying
clicking sound. If you were using them a lot it is my guess that they would definitely start to irritate you or whoever else is within earshot.
