Firstly, the design is rather
stunning. It´s mucho modern, stylish and has a
super sleek finish. A lot of thought has clearly gone into the design. All of the corners have been rounded off which gives it a very soft and pleasant look. The working area and the keyboard have been finished in a
liquid silver colour with a mesh imprint on the plam rest area. The lid has been coated in a glossy black lacquer with the same imprint. Connecting the chassis to the display is a large and sophisticated hinge.
The two colours that have been used, silver and black, are glossy but not to the point that you could use as a replacement mirror. The working area is much duller than the lid and has a
“liquid-metallic” finish with the HP Imprint. The imprint is a very subtle yet effective mesh pattern that can be seen clearly in bright light
The structure of the dv5 is
impeccable and there is no part of it that could be considered weak or flimsy. Michael Flatley could perform his Lord of The Dance routine on the palm rest area and I doubt it would cause a dent. Lifting it by one corner causes no flex, even when giving it a good old shake. The materials used for the dv5 are quite simply fantastic.
The display could marginally do with some strengthening but it is be no means fragile. Pressing the back of the lid causes
very slight ripples on the display for example but the flex in total for this display is average.
The surface coating of the entire notebook is
exceptionally durable. Trying quite hard to inflict a scratch or two proved fruitless. This is great news should you want to do some travelling with your impressive new purchase.
